What is a man’s place in the home?

Answer:

Ps 8:5-9
Ps 8:5
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Ps 8:6
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Ps 8:7
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
Ps 8:8
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
Ps 8:9
O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

1pe 3:7
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Man is the spiritual head of the household, the priest of his home. He acts as the spiritual cover for his wife and family. But what does that mean?

Why is God so concerned about man? Because He created the man first to be the head, to take dominion, to lead, to guide, and to instruct. That is man’s position. He is to have authority over everything on the earth. He has crowned man with glory and honor. That’s awesome. Man is to have character and respect. He should have dignity, integrity and honor in the way in which he walks. This is what others see in him. Therefore he is in the eye of his children. All these things God has placed in man that he could be the ruler and leader over his home.

One must give honor in order to retain honor. As Peter explains man has to have a certain amount of knowledge of Christ in order to understand how he is to treat his wife. Man is to give honor to his wife. For example, man is not to go out and work all day and then put all the money in his pocket. She is to be covered by her husband financially with the money he makes, courtesy jesters such as opening doors for her, acknowledging her presence. She is to treat tenderly, special. If made a queen by the man, she will make him a king. Man is to cover his wife with prayer for all her needs, for her protection, etc. Without the knowledge of Christ and honor given to her, God will not answer his prayers. His actions and attitudes towards his wife are very important. It is not that she is weaker in the mind, but rather, she is weaker in that she needs his prayer coverage for her needs to be met. Man and wife are to walk side by side as one with God.

Man also has the responsibility to provide for his family in various areas of their lives such as shelter, food, clothing, education, utilities, etc. When a father takes his proper place in the home, he makes a difference in both his home and the world. If submissive to Christ, it would make a difference in his children’s lives. He is a trophy in the eyes of the children. They look up to him and hold him dear to their hearts. It is through his example that the children learn how to respect and love their mother and future spouse. He is the primary position of authority in their lives, which give them a perspective of God Himself. When the father reflects love toward his wife and family, then they too will be able to love others.

What is a man’s place in his home? To be a spiritual leader and cover his family, to be a Christ-like example for his family to follow and to be provider for his family.
