Calvin Miller (author of The Singer): "I
have always been a bit reluctant to give God
the credit for anything, in case he doesn't
want the credit. D. James Kennedy tells the
story about a woman who came to him with a
poem 'that the Holy Spirit gave me.' After
he read the poem, he said that to accuse the
Holy Spirit of a poem like that was not fair
to God."

murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn
incense to Baal and follow other gods you
have not known, and then come and stand
before me in this house, which bears my
Name, and say, 'We are safe'--safe to do all
these detestable things? Has this house,
which bears my Name, become a den of robbers
to you?..."
Jer 7:30 (NIV) "The people of Judah have

will stab him."

some in horses, but we trust in the name

always.
What's In A Name...

said to him, "Why do you ask my name? It is
too wonderful."
Ex 33:19 (NIV) And the Lord said, "I will
cause all my goodness to pass in front of
you, and I will proclaim my name,
the Lord, in your presence. I will have

have compassion on whom I will have
compassion."

the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which
is coming down out of heaven from my God;
and I will also write on him my new
name."
Gen 32:28-29 (NIV) Then the man said,

The Name Of The Lord Revealed To Moses
Previous to the revelation of Messiah
(the answer to the riddle posed below of how
God can be both forgiving and punishing)
this was the clearest description of the
Name of the Lord given to mankind.
Ex 3:13-15 (NIV) Moses said to God,
"Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to
them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me
to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his
name?' Then what shall I tell them?" God
said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what
you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has
sent me to you.'" God also said to Moses,
"Say to the Israelites, 'The Lord, the God
of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God
of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has sent me
to you.' This is my name for ever, the name
by which I am to be remembered from
generation to generation."
Ex 34:5-7 (NIV) Then the Lord came down
in the cloud and stood there with him and
proclaimed his name, the Lord. And
he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming,
"The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and
gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in
love and faithfulness, maintaining love to
thousands, and forgiving wickedness,
rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the
guilty unpunished; he punishes the children
and their children for the sin of the
fathers to the third and fourth generation."
Jesus, The Perfect Expression Of The
Father
Ps 118:26 (NIV) Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord...
Ps 8:1 (KJV) O LORD our Lord, how
excellent is thy name in all the earth!...
Prov 30:4 (NIV) Who has gone up to heaven
and come down? Who has gathered up the wind
in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped
up the waters in his cloak? Who has
established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and the name of
his son? Tell me if you know!
Rom 10:6-9 (NKJ) But the righteousness of
faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in
your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'"
(that is, to bring Christ down from above)
or," 'Who will descend into the abyss?'"
(that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
But what does it say? "The word is near you,
in your mouth and in your heart" (that is,
the word of faith which we preach): that if
you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God has
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Isa 57:15 (NIV) "For this is what the
high and lofty One says--he who lives for
ever, whose name is holy: 'I live
in a high and holy place, but also with him
who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to
revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive
the heart of the contrite.'"
Rev 22:4 (NIV) They will see his face,
and his name will be on their
foreheads.
Micah 6:9 (NIV) Listen! The Lord is
calling to the city--and to fear your name
is wisdom--"Heed the rod and the One who
appointed it."
Ex 23:21 (NIV) Pay attention to him and
listen to what he says. Do not rebel against
him; he will not forgive your rebellion,
since my Name is in him.
