Details about Defeating Giants! :
Defeating Giants!
Ever thought about the role self-pity plays in our lives today?
It is hard to think of a more destructive weapon we use against ourselves than
that of self-pity. It completely disarms us as it pulls the life of the Word out
of our lives, disabling the Holy Spirit to work in us, to grow and mature.
Self-pity has one goal: destruction. It breaks down the communion and
communication with God by blocking our faith. Fear takes over. Defeat lurks
around the corner. Self-pity turns into depression, apathy, oppression,
illnesses, or worse.
No one can put it on us. We open the door ourselves and invite it in. Like a
cute little monkey that grows into a huge out -of -control baboon that screams
demands of us; feeling sorry for ourselves can lead us quickly into a world of
feelings that are monstrously out of proportion screaming anything but faith and
trust in our ears! Suddenly before we realize, our dreams, our goal s, our
everything has slipped through our fingers and we are prisoners or our emotions.
All done by the act of opening the door slightly just to appease our flesh!
No matter who we are. No matter our circumstance. God is very busy attempting to
guide and direct us to maturity in Him. He uses every circumstance in our life
to bring us to a great, higher level in Him.
Sometimes I have envisioned myself being Held by the collar by God as I kick and
flail my arms in protest of my circumstances or feelings. Patiently, God awaits
for me to get the adult temper tantrum out of my system, and then gently places
my feet safely on the ground asking, “Are you through?” Embarrassed, I admit my
fault and stand in position to receive Divine forgiveness and direction.
I have learned that if I must have a time of self-pity, I set a timer for a few
minutes. I savor those ticks of the clock and enjoy the disgust of self-pity.
But once that bell sounds, pity is over. It is time to get up! Talk to my
Father, and get on with life! Fortunately, self-pity takes less and less time of
my life the older I get. Destruction is not needed in my life. I want to live! I
want to enjoy life! And I want to look at the challenges of life straight in the
eye and go forward, not backward. Through Christ I CAN do all things! I don’t
have to attempt to hide from the challenges that life throws at me through
self-pity! I can go forward! The dreams that God has given me stay intact. My
faith and trust in Him increases as I see Him work out my problems.
God has a plan for my life; for your life! We do NOT have to allow self-pity to
rob us of such victories that God has in store for us! Both Paul and James tells
us that we will have challenges in life. We will be tempted. There will be
giants to face. But our emotions do not have to dictate us. Feeding ourselves
with the Word daily gives us direction and strength for those tough times.
Ready to get rid of self-pity? Tired of lack? Stand up! Move away from
self-pity, and RUN into the arms of the all forgiving Father. Cry to Him what is
burning deep within you. Have you heard the words of the song that is on this
page you are reading from? “Save me! Heal me!” Cry out! Cry out, my friend, and
watch God move for you! There is nothing too big for God!
